What is a Vehicle Inspection and Why is it Necessary?

A vehicle inspection is a periodic technical examination to assess a vehicle’s condition, ensuring it meets safety and environmental standards before operating on public roads.

Mr. Nguyen Van A, a seasoned truck driver on Giai Phong Road, shares: “Vehicle inspection is like getting a regular health checkup. It ensures the ‘health’ of your vehicle, preventing potential accidents while on the road.”

Vehicle Inspection Intervals According to the Latest Regulations

According to the latest regulations in Circular 16/2021/TT-BGTVT, vehicle inspection intervals are categorized by vehicle type:

Vehicle Type Inspection Interval
Passenger cars with fewer than 9 seats (including pickup trucks) First inspection: 30 months; Subsequent inspections: 18 months
Passenger cars with 10 or more seats 12 months
Trucks, tractors 12 months
Specialized vehicles 12 months
Passenger cars owned by organizations or individuals engaged in transportation business 6 months

Note:

  • The inspection interval is calculated from the date of the previous completed inspection.
  • Vehicle owners must bring their vehicles for inspection before the expiration date indicated on the inspection sticker.
  • Expired inspections will result in fines ranging from 2-3 million VND (for passenger cars) and 4-6 million VND (for trucks) according to Decree 100/2019/NĐ-CP.
