“Every trade has its secrets,” my friend, a Hyundai HD120 truck driver who runs the North-South route, chuckled as I bragged about recently obtaining my B1 driver’s license. “Trucks have their own game; a B1 license is more for the ‘kings of the road!'” His words piqued my curiosity. What made this B1 license so special that everyone kept mentioning it?

What is a B1 Driver’s License? What Vehicles Can You Drive?

Simply put, a B1 license in Vietnam allows you to drive passenger cars with 4 to 9 seats, including the driver’s seat. For instance, you can take the wheel of a VinFast Fadil for a family trip to Tam Dao or cruise around Hanoi’s ancient streets in a Mazda 3. Sounds appealing, right?

However, my truck driver friend was right; a B1 license isn’t for truck enthusiasts. To handle road behemoths like Hino trucks or Howo dump trucks, you’ll need a C license or higher. For more details about the C license, you can refer to the article B2 Driver’s License.

Advantages of a B1 Driver’s License:

  • Flexibility: Easily navigate crowded cities with various 4-9 seater vehicles.
  • Convenience: Suitable for daily commutes, family trips, and outings with friends.
  • Easy to Obtain: Compared to a C license, the B1 license requires shorter training and is easier to pass.

Disadvantages of a B1 Driver’s License:

  • Vehicle Restrictions: You are not permitted to drive trucks or large passenger vehicles.
  • Job Opportunities: A B1 license isn’t the top choice for those pursuing a professional driving career.

Getting a B1 Driver’s License: Cost and Reputable Driving Schools

The cost of a B1 driving course in Hanoi ranges from 7 to 12 million VND, depending on the training center. To avoid wasting money and time, thoroughly research and choose reputable centers with structured training programs and experienced instructors.
