Why Headlights Get Foggy: Common Causes

Foggy headlights are a common issue, especially in cold or humid weather. The main causes include:

  • Damaged or Aging Headlight Seals: Rubber seals prevent water and dust from entering the headlight assembly. When these seals are damaged or worn out, moisture can easily seep inside, causing fogging.
  • Clogged Vent Tubes: Headlights are designed with vent tubes to balance pressure and release moisture. If these tubes become blocked, moisture cannot escape, gradually building up and fogging the lens.
  • Cracked or Broken Headlight Lens: Damage to the headlight lens can also allow moisture to penetrate the assembly.
