The recent discovery of a child’s body in a Dongfeng truck in Hanoi has sparked outrage and serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, especially during hot weather.
According to the Traffic Safety Department, dozens of children die each year in Vietnam from heatstroke after being left in hot cars. The primary cause is determined to be negligence and forgetfulness on the part of adults.
Nguyen Van A, a long-time truck driver in Hanoi, shared, “After long hauls, fatigue can lead to carelessness. I almost forgot my own grandchild sleeping in my Thaco truck once, but thankfully, I remembered in time.” He added that many truck drivers place reminders like “Check the vehicle before leaving” on their dashboards.

Temperatures inside a parked car can rise rapidly, especially in direct sunlight. In just 10 minutes, the interior temperature can soar 10 degrees Celsius higher than the outside temperature. Children are particularly vulnerable to heatstroke due to their underdeveloped body temperature regulation systems.

The death of a child in a hot car is a tragedy no parent wants to face. Let’s work together to protect children by raising awareness and personal responsibility, ensuring every journey is a safe one.
