“Having a car for a beach trip offers endless possibilities,” a phrase often echoed by my friends whenever we plan a coastal getaway. Our recent self-drive trip to Cat Ba Island was no exception. From navigating breathtaking coastal roads to exploring the island’s beauty at our own pace, the journey was a string of unforgettable experiences. Join me as I recount this memorable adventure, and perhaps you’ll find some helpful tips for your own trip!

Planning Your Cat Ba Road Trip

Choosing the Ideal Time

Cat Ba Island possesses unique charm in every season, but the ideal time for a road trip is from April to October. During these months, the weather is dry and sunny, perfect for driving and enjoying outdoor activities.

Mr. Minh Tuan, a frequent customer who rents cars from XE TẢI HÀ NỘI for his travels, shared: “My family usually chooses to visit Cat Ba in May or June. The weather is beautiful, the sea is calm, and it’s perfect for swimming, sightseeing, and enjoying fresh seafood.”

Choosing the Right Vehicle

Depending on the number of people in your group and your needs, you can choose a 4-seater, 7-seater, or 16-seater car. If you’re in Hanoi and looking to rent a car, XE TẢI HÀ NỘI offers a wide range of vehicles from reputable brands like Hyundai, Toyota, and Ford, making it a worthy consideration.

Mr. Le Van Nam, an automotive market analyst, commented: “For the route to Cat Ba, choosing a vehicle with high ground clearance and a powerful engine will ensure a smoother and safer journey, especially when taking the ferry or navigating steep mountain passes.”

Driving from Hanoi to Cat Ba Island

The Route

  • From Hanoi: Starting from Hanoi’s city center, head towards Thanh Tri Bridge, follow National Highway 5B, and merge onto the Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway.
  • To Dinh Vu – Cat Hai Ferry: After exiting the expressway, continue towards Tan Vu – Lach Huyen Bridge.
  • To Got – Cat Hai Ferry: After crossing the bridge, continue for about 20km to reach the Got – Cat Hai Ferry.
  • To Cat Ba: After disembarking the Got Ferry, drive for another 25km to reach Cat Ba town center.

Note: A new coastal expressway passing through the Got Ferry has recently opened, shortening the travel time from Hanoi to Cat Ba. However, it’s essential to check the latest route information and fees before your departure.
