2023 Fine Schedule for Illegal U-Turns

Making a U-turn in a prohibited area not only obstructs traffic but also poses a serious risk of accidents, especially for large trucks. Specific fines for illegal U-turns are stipulated in Decree 100/2019/ND-CP (amended by Decree 123/2021/ND-CP) as follows:

For Cars (Including Trucks):

Making a U-turn in a no U-turn zone: Fine from 800,000 to 1,200,000 VND (Point a, Clause 5, Article 5). In addition, the driver’s license will be suspended from 01 to 03 months.
Making a U-turn on a bridge: Fine from 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 VND (Point c, Clause 5, Article 5). In addition, the driver’s license will be suspended from 02 to 04 months.
Making a U-turn in a tunnel: Fine from 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 VND (Point d, Clause 5, Article 5). In addition, the driver’s license will be suspended from 02 to 04 months.
Making a U-turn without signaling: Fine from 800,000 to 1,200,000 VND (Point g, Clause 5, Article 5).

For Trucks (3.5 tons or more) and Container Trucks:

In addition to the above violations, trucks will be fined from 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 VND for making a U-turn that causes traffic congestion (Point i, Clause 5, Article 5).
