“In business, connections are key,” an old saying that still holds true, especially in the truck industry. Staying updated on market trends and the latest policies is crucial. If you’re in the truck business, particularly dealing with box trucks, light trucks, vans, or trucks with capacities of 1 ton, 2 tons, 3.5 tons, or 8 tons, paying attention is even more critical. It seems that even Trump’s policies across the globe have had a ripple effect on Vietnam’s truck market!

How Significant Were Trump’s Policies?

Former US President Donald Trump’s policies, especially his “America First” trade agenda, created significant fluctuations in the global market. Imposing tariffs on Chinese goods and escalating US-China trade tensions forced many businesses to adjust their supply chains, including those in the truck manufacturing and transportation sectors.

What Was the Impact on Hanoi’s Truck Market?

A friend of mine, who owns a transportation company in Hanoi, shared that during that period, the price of raw materials like steel increased due to the impact of steel production innovation policies. This led to a rise in the price of trucks, especially domestically produced box trucks and light trucks. Furthermore, Trump’s policies caused a decrease in the demand for transporting goods from China to the US, consequently reducing the demand for international transportation.

However, every cloud has a silver lining. Many Vietnamese businesses seized this opportunity to boost exports to the US market. As a result, the demand for domestic and export transportation to other markets increased, facilitating the recovery and development of the domestic truck market, particularly for vans and trucks with capacities of 1 ton, 2 tons, and 3.5 tons.

Lessons Learned

Trump’s policies acted as an undercurrent, causing turbulence in the truck market. However, they also provided valuable lessons for Vietnamese businesses about adapting flexibly and seizing opportunities amidst a fluctuating global economy. And who knows, perhaps within these changes, we can discover new directions and potential for the nation’s truck industry.
