End-of-Year Car Blessing for Safety and Prosperity

The story of Mr. Nam, a long-time truck driver on Nguyen Trai Street in Hanoi, is often told. His truck, a Thaco Towner filled with fruits from the South, was affectionately nicknamed “Ong Dia” (Land Genie), as he believed it brought him good luck. Every year-end, no matter how busy, Mr. Nam would meticulously clean “Ong Dia,” prepare a lavish offering, and sincerely recite the end-of-year car blessing, praying for a new year filled with safe travels and prosperity. Legend has it that “Ong Dia” never broke down on Mr. Nam, always accompanying him on every journey and providing a comfortable life for his family.
